Weighing systems in waste collection vehicles

The next year Distromel will turn 20 years since the first installation of a weighing system for waste in a collection vehicle and the reality, of course, is that nothing resembles the previous results with the weighing results obtained in the last implementations. During this time, the way of obtaining the data has changed, the electronic ones have evolved considerably and the deviation in the weighings has diminished until being practically negligible since they are agents external to the weighing system which make it impossible to perfect the tasks of maneuver such as the inclement weather or the same automatic collection operation.

The success in the latest Distromel implementations gives our customers guaranteed reliability. National and international successes such as elevator and chassis weighing systems that have been installed by Distromel technicians have demonstrated in the 2015 and 2016 implementations that we have a new agile and flexible system according to customer needs.

Weighing systems shipped in waste collection vehicles allow production data of each container to be obtained, by specific municipalities or areas and of the different fractions to analyze the percentage of recycling of each of them. They allow you to track the weights of each container and subsequently design campaigns based on the fraction or the area or municipality with the lowest recycling rate as well as implement the payment per generation that so much acceptance among citizens is having. For this, it is necessary the robustness of the system and an experienced technical service capable of solving any incident that may arise since these vehicles are exposed to very aggressive environments and long working hours.

Distromel weighing equipment can operate with different tools designed by Distromel forming a complete system for the control of the collection as they are electronic shipped with bidirectional technology container identification systems GPS location systems, inclinometers to detect the elevation, keypads of introduction of incidents or information or mobile applications for the management of the services. In the following table you can see a table of the real data obtained from the web that the Distromel technicians use daily to verify the correct operation and detect possible incidents in the systems. They belong to a waste collection vehicle / RSU in a Spanish community. The dates, the weight of the weighing system embarked on the collector, the weight that the operator has entered as landfill weight and the deviation of the weighing can be displayed.

Distromel has weighing equipment for all types of collectors such as rear-loading trucks, lateral collectors, bilateral collectors or top-loading trucks (crane). Depending on the type of collector Distromel uses one or other specific cells and in the case of weighing systems in chassis Distromel also has different options depending on the axles and the length of the vehicle. In addition, one of the latest developments that provide these favorable results is the analog-digital conversion of the signal from the load cells that these weighing devices have. This conversion converts the cells used into digital cells and increases accuracy by a number of factors such as:

  • System immunity with respect to all types of interference.
  • Each cell has an independent converter which causes more simplicity to detect incidents in them since they can be monitored separately thanks to the use of communication between them by CAN BUS.
  • The weighing signal is not distributed to all cells, but they are independent of each other.
